The Exhibition:
Kiki Bokassa exhibits some of the paintings produced during the  “72 hrs”.
Meet us on Thursday, the 7th of May 2009 at Samir Kassir Garden  to celebrate the success of this event.

The “72 hrs” event is the first episode of a series of artistic manifestations presented by Kiki Bokassa in April-May 2009. This event was held from April 24 through 27 in “Laboratoire d’art”, a showroom on Saint Nicolas Steps. The artist painted during 72 hours in a row on canvases covering the walls and the ceiling. The “72 hrs” are followed by an art exhibition held on the 7th of May (day and night) and by the tribute to Yoko Ono, “Cut Piece”.

Type of the Event:
A painter, living and painting, the process broadcast live on video monitors and also as part of an interactive blog on the Internet on the site www.72-hrs.com.

Date:
Friday, April 24, 2009, 10 am until Monday, April 27, 2009, 10 am.

Place:
« Laboratoire d’art », Saint Nicolas Stairs, Gemmayzeh.

For Kiki Bokassa, the artist is, above all, a human being, creativity launched at anytime and shared with the audience. Bokassa’s show offers a chance to watch a painter in action, her progress played live on screens along Gemmayzeh’s main street. People may also stand outside the gallery’s window and witness hours in the artist’s life in a living space designed for the event.

Material:
The gallery surface (ceiling, walls and floor) will be entirely covered with canvas. Two professional cameras and a webcam will record the proceedings. A handy cam will also capture the audience’s feedback.

Size of the performance surface:
34 m2 / 2.70 m high.

A 30-minute documentary will be produced following the 72 hours of shooting. This documentary will be sent to the media outlets interested in contemporary art, and other regional and international outlets.

An exhibition for the artwork produced during the “72-hours” will be held in Samir Kassir garden on 7 May 2009.

A tribute to “Cut Piece”:
After the event, Kiki Bokassa will pay tribute to a 1964 Yoko Ono performance. In one of the city theaters, she will wear a painted dress, and ask spectators, each in turn, to cut a piece of this dress (made during the 72-hour performance). The cutting of the painted dress is intended as a pacific protest against all forms of violence anywhere in the world. Half the dress will represent human life, the other half, our environment.
